ஆதியில் இருந்தே அதாவது புராண காலங்கள் முதலே சர்ப்ப வழிபாடு எனும் பெயரில் பாம்புகளை தெய்வமாகக் கருதி வணங்குவது இருந்துள்ளது. ஆதி காலத்தில் உலகின் பல்வேறு இடங்களிலும் அதாவது கொரியா, எகிப்து, இத்தாலி, மசோபோடமியா, கிரேக்க, சீனா, ஜப்பான் மற்றும் ஆப்ரிக்க நாடுகள் போன்ற இடங்களில் எல்லாம் கூட பாம்புகளை தெய்வமாகக் கருதி வழிபட்டு வந்துள்ளார்கள் என்பதினால் இந்தியாவில் கடைபிடிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் சர்ப வழிபாடு வியப்பை தருவது  அல்ல. இந்து, புத்த  மற்றும் ஜைன மதத்தினரும் பாம்பு வழிபாட்டைக் கடைப்பிடித்து வந்துள்ளார்கள். சில இடங்களிலும் பாம்புகளுக்கு முக்கியத்துவம் தரும் ஆலயங்கள் உள்ளன. இயற்கையிலேயே புற்றுக்களில், மண்ணில், தூசியில், மற்றும் பல்வேறு குப்பைக் கூளங்களில் பாம்புகள் உர்ந்து வந்தாலும், அங்கெல்லாம் வசித்தாலும் அவற்றின் அழுக்குகள் எதுவுமே அதன் உடலில் ஒட்டிக் கொள்ளுவது இல்லை என்பது வியப்பான செய்தியாகும். ஆகவே  ஆன்மீகவாதிகள் அழுக்குகள் ஒட்டாத பாம்பின் தன்மையை ஒரு உதாரணமாக சுட்டிக் காட்டி உலகின் எந்த சூழ்நிலையையும் தன்னை ஆக்ரமிக்காமல் எவன் ஒருவன் தனித் தன்மையோடு இருப்...

Serpents worship (Naga Worship) has been in vague since pre historic and puranic times in many parts of world and therefore worship of serpents as God is not new phenomenon in India. Worship of Serpents had existed even in Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Korea, Japan, China and many of the African countries besides Rome etc even during ancient times. Serpents have been worshipped as deity by Hindus, Buddhist and Jains and few temples giving importance for snakes exist in some parts of our land. Snakes are the only creature whose body is not affected by any object even though they move around  on sand and dust though they live in sand pits even if the pits are wet. This is the gift of nature. In a way their body remains  unaffected  from surrounding objects under any circumstances. This is why the Puranas cite the example of snakes whose body remains detached from the surrounding objects,  to preach the sadhanatviks  that like snakes one...
